George Meijers (Stein, 1954) studied hospital social work at the Sociale Academie in Sittard, the Netherlands. He is self-taught in photography. Human behaviour plays a major part in his photography, expressed in images which are documentary in nature and in series which translate personal statements into staged images. This is expressed in exhibitions including ‘Een wereld van verschil’ [A world of difference], ‘Zonder pose’ [Unposed], ‘Dood is goed… dan lig je er mooi bij’ [Death is good… then you are laid up nicely], ‘Russische impressies’ [Russian impressions], ‘Status Quo: fotografische impressies van krimpwijken in Parkstad Limburg’ [Status Quo: photographic impressions of shrinking neighbourhoods in Parkstad Limburg], ‘Hoeveel letters kan ik verdragen’ [How many letters can I bear] and ‘DIT IS STEIN [THIS IS STEIN]. His work has been exhibited and published both in the Netherlands and abroad. Two books appeared in 2003; a literary photo book; Dood is goed… dan lig je er mooi bij, with poetic texts by Ger Bertholet and in 2013; DIT IS STEIN / THIS IS STEIN.
